Based on a unique legal relationship with Indian tribes, the Federal Government has taken a number of steps to promote the economic self-sufficiency of Native communities who still remain among the most economically disadvantaged and under-employed groups in America.





The profits generated by these Native enterprises provide economic benefits to entire tribal communities, sometimes numbering in the thousands. The Small Business Administration 8(a) Business Development Program has become an important tool in building a culture of ownership and entrepreneurship in Indian country and in diversifying Native economies.


Berg Integrated Systems vehemently maintains integrity of the SBA 8(a) program through the following actions:

  • Ultimate executive managerial and operational control is exercised by Coeur d’Alene Tribal leaders through a majority vote on the Berg Integrated Systems Board of Directors.
  • Tribally owned enterprise that benefits hundreds of primary Tribal Member shareholders, many who have historically existed at or below the poverty level.
  • Our facilities are located in the heart of the Coeur d’Alene Indian Reservation (Plummer, ID), with HUBZone certification; and in Benewah County, a rural area with some of the highest rates of unemployment in the state of Idaho and the greater inland northwest region.
  • The Berg Integrates Systems facilities are a bona fide place of business for purposes of 8(a) construction procurements, and are where an office is maintained and staffed by many full-time individuals who hold federally recognized tribal affiliations.  
  • The Coeur d’Alene Tribe recognizes Berg Integrated Systems as a vehicle for economic development, and as a significant pathway for diversifying the local Tribal and regional economy.
  • Berg Integrated Systems is dedicated and practices hiring Coeur d’Alene, and other federally recognized, Tribal members for employment and training purposes.
  • Through infrastructure development at our facilities, the enterprise inherently enriches a local, rural community that is historically challenged with opportunities of economic development.
  • The Coeur d’Alene Tribe is dedicated and practices positioning Berg Integrated Systems as a significant vehicle for personnel development, training, and long-term self-sufficiency of the Tribal work
